Careers at Mountain Mechanical

Why Work at Mountain Mechanical

  • Owner-led shop. Peter Montana has 40+ years in the trade and runs the company from East Patchogue. Decisions get made fast, and you talk to people, not layers.
  • Real VRF work, not a side line. We’ve been on the heaviest VRF jobs in NYC and Long Island. Recent and past projects include Arverne by the Sea, The Tides, Bloomberg, and Harlem River Houses.
  • Factory-certified across the major brands. Daikin VRV Best Practices, VRV Architecture, TC5i Installation, Low GWP, plus LG, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, and Samsung VRF. All brand training is paid and on the clock.
  • Fully licensed. Mechanical, plumbing, and electrical (restricted). Licensed, bonded, and insured in New York State.
  • Commercial only. No residential service calls. You work on commercial buildings: Manhattan high-rises, hotels, industrial, retail, mixed-use.
  • Home dispatch. Start and end the day at your residence or the assigned job site. Almost no reason to come into the main office.
  • Wide route, home base on Long Island. All five boroughs of NYC, western Long Island, Westchester, and parts of New Jersey.

Compensation, Benefits, and Time Off

Same package across all three roles — W-2 with real benefits.

  • Pay. Competitive, depending on what you bring. Performance bonus and incentive on top of base for exceptional performance.
  • 401(k). 3.5% employer match.
  • Health insurance. 50% employer coverage.
  • Time off. 2 weeks pooled PTO year one (vacation and sick combined), increasing with tenure. Federal holidays paid.
  • Vehicle and cards (lead and service techs). Company truck, gas card, and company credit card from day one. Truck and gas card are work use only, no personal errands.
  • Tools. Hand tools, brand-specific diagnostic tools, and uniforms provided. Company replaces lost or broken tools — tools must be kept in good working condition.
  • Training. Paid factory training across Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, Fujitsu, and Samsung. All on the clock.

How We Develop Our Techs

Every cert we require, we help you earn. The training stack is real, paid, and on the clock.

  • EPA 608. Required for service work. We cover exam fees and give you study time on the clock if you don’t have it yet.
  • OSHA 30. Required across all roles. Provided if you don’t have it.
  • Factory training across all five major VRF brands. Daikin VRV (Best Practices, Architecture, TC5i Installation, Low GWP), Mitsubishi City Multi, LG Multi V, Fujitsu Airstage, Samsung DVM. Every brand you add expands the kind of work we can put in front of you.
  • FDNY refrigeration cert. Required for Manhattan lead work. We cover the prep course and exam.
  • Mentor pairing. Apprentices ride along with a lead from day one. Service techs get pulled into lead-level work the moment they’re ready. Lead techs are expected to coach the tier below them.
  • Clear progression. Apprentice to Service Tech in 18-24 months. Service Tech to Lead Tech as fast as you can prove it. No artificial ceilings, no waiting for someone above you to retire.

If you’re a strong commercial HVAC tech without VRF, you’d come in as a Service Tech and we’d train you up across the brands. If you’re a sharp generalist with mechanical aptitude and no certs at all, we’ll put you in the Apprentice path and get you there.
